From Surfwear to Support Work: Jordan’s Journey

September 3, 2025

When Jordan first joined eQuality Support, he wasn’t sure where the path would take him. What he did know was this: he wanted more meaning in his career.

“I spent nearly seven years at Rip Curl in a design role, where I had great opportunities and really enjoyed the work. However, I found myself wanting to pursue something more meaningful, work that has a real impact and contributes to people’s lives.”

After years in a creative role, Jordan made the leap into disability support. He joined eQuality Support as a Disability Support Worker and quickly discovered how rewarding people-centered work could be.

“Building strong connections and developing a deep understanding of the clients I supported in the past allowed me to better identify their needs, goals, and the supports that suited them best. This not only helped me provide more effective support but also contributed to my own personal and professional growth.”

During his two years on the frontline, Jordan supported clients through everyday wins and memorable milestones. One standout moment? Taking a Geelong Cats fan to a footy game for the first time.

“Support work taught me that small moments can have a big impact. Whether it’s a laugh, a shared story, or helping someone reach a goal, it all matters.”

The work also brought unexpected personal growth.

“I learned patience, how to manage difficult situations, and how to create positive outcomes. It taught me how to slow down and truly be present with people.”

Now, over a year into his role as Client Services Officer (CSO), Jordan continues to make a difference. This time, by coordinating quality supports across our services.

“Moving into the CSO role gave me a new perspective. I’m still supporting people, just in a different way, by making sure our services run smoothly and meet real needs.”

Jordan’s progression from frontline support to being part of the client services team was supported by eQuality Support’s commitment to internal development. Through mentoring, hands-on experience, and opportunities to step into new responsibilities, he was able to build the skills and confidence needed to take the next step.

“I was encouraged to grow and take on new challenges. The team supported me in exploring what I was capable of, and that made a huge difference.”

Reflecting on his journey, Jordan encourages others to explore new paths, even if they seem out of the ordinary.

“If you’re considering a similar change, ask questions. Reach out to people. You might be surprised by what you learn and where it leads.”

What hasn’t changed is Jordan’s focus on connection.

“Working alongside people you connect with and building strong relationships with coworkers creates a positive and supportive environment. In this role, forming genuine connections adds depth to the support you provide and makes a lasting impact on everyone involved.”

Jordan’s story is one of many at eQuality Support, where career pathways are shaped by passion, potential, and the support to grow.
