Glenn’s Game Plan: Footy, Friendship and Support

September 24, 2025
Glenn doesn’t just love footy, he loves the Geelong Cats. And only when they win.

“He’ll absolutely blame the coach if they lose,” laughs Shayne, one of Glenn’s long-time support workers. “But when they win, he’s the happiest bloke in the room.”

For Glenn, footy isn’t just a game. It’s a ritual, a source of joy and a way to connect. With Shayne by his side, watching games becomes a shared experience full of laughter, emotion and trust.

“We bounce off each other,” Shayne says. “If Glenn’s excited, I’m excited. If he’s frustrated, I’m frustrated. It’s like hanging out with a mate.”

That sense of connection is central to Glenn’s support. Donna, another support worker, describes it as “showing up for Glenn,” being present, consistent, and emotionally attuned.

“He just needs to know you care,” Donna says. “When he sees a familiar face walk through the door, he lights up. That’s trust. That’s safety.”

Glenn’s social world extends beyond footy. Bowling with his friend Barry is another highlight, a routine that brings joy, confidence, and belonging.

“He associates certain activities with certain people,” Shayne explains. “Bowling is something he does with me. It’s part of our rhythm.”

These routines aren’t just about fun. They’re about emotional safety, predictability and empowerment. Glenn’s support team works hard to tailor experiences to his preferences; whether it’s watching local footy, exploring new hobbies or simply spending time with people who make him feel heard.

“He’s one of the smartest clients I’ve worked with,” Donna says. “He just needs to be validated. He wants to be supported, not managed.”

At eQuality Support, this is what person-centred care looks like: building relationships, honouring individuality and empowering people to live the life they choose.
