Some moments in life can’t be recreated.
They’re made up of conversations that linger a little longer, familiar laughs that haven’t been heard for years, and the simple comfort of sitting beside the people who know you best.
One lunch brought all of that together for Leon, Greg, Aileen and Anne.
For Leon, it had been almost a year since seeing his sister, Aileen. For Greg, it had been a number of years.
With Aileen living in Melbourne and supported by JG Care, and their 87-year-old mother Anne living in residential aged care, bringing everyone together had become increasingly difficult. Like many families, distance, changing circumstances and busy lives had slowly turned a simple family catch-up into something that felt almost impossible.
But for Kath, what she heard wasn’t just a conversation about logistics. It was a conversation about family.
When Kath learned how much this reunion would mean to the family, she knew she wanted to help make it happen. Working alongside the family’s wider support network, including colleagues at eQuality Support, Aileen’s team at JG Care, Support Coordinator Michael and the family’s next of kin, Marita, she helped turn a long-held hope into reality.
What followed was far more than a lunch.
Around a table filled with home-cooked meals, stories that had been waiting years to be told began to flow again. Laughter returned, old memories resurfaced and, for a few precious hours, everyone simply enjoyed being together as a family.
Most importantly, Anne was able to spend precious time with all three of her children together, a moment that everyone recognised was incredibly special.
In the days that followed, the significance of the reunion continued to resonate.
Greg shared simply:
“I feel good today because of Friday.”
Anne described the day as “so special”, while Aileen’s provider, Gina shared:
“Thank you for bringing the family together and giving them the opportunity to spend precious time with one another.”
Those few words captured exactly what the day was about.
At eQuality Support, we believe great support starts with understanding what matters most to each individual.
Sometimes that means building confidence, developing new skills or achieving personal goals.
Sometimes, it means helping people reconnect with the ones they love.
While supports may be planned, some of the most meaningful outcomes are the moments no plan could ever fully capture.
We’re incredibly grateful to Leon, Greg, Aileen and Anne for allowing us to share this special chapter in their family’s story, and to everyone who worked together to make the reunion possible.
Because making a difference every day isn’t always about doing something extraordinary.
Sometimes, it’s about creating the opportunity for families to reconnect, memories to be made and precious moments to be shared.
Meaningful moments begin with understanding what matters most to each person.
Whether it’s supporting greater independence, building community connections or helping people achieve personal goals, we’re here to provide support that’s centred around the individual.
